great post!i also such a crazy guy when i was younger,i always wanted to build a amp but i couldn’t do it,it was just a mono one,i jst had a national panasonic radio which is about 10 yrs older than me,i was also amazed with the AFC & stereo LEDs,but at that time there was sirasa fm too i used to record it to cassetes hehe(actually i destroyed my dad’s collection by over-recoding these),but i loved to listen to SW transmissions,even now(but now i don’t have time to play),listening to CRI Sinhala transmission was such an amazement to me,even now we can listen to few MW transmissions in sinahala,one is All India Radio (1053kHz);i still love the crappy sounds my dream was to have a satellite reciver,there was a huge dish with my friend and he watched cartoon network all day,(when i was in grade 3),when i was at grade 10,i used to learn about natural radio and other stuff DXing ..etc,but couldn’t make a LW reciver to observe sun and other astronomical things,then i got satellite reciver and set up it with help of the great K
i always tell anyone to do yourself other than buying something,it needs less money and can make a change,thnx Kalinga aiya for writing these DIYs and great posts

@Udara,Now SLBC is also transmitted on Intelsat 12,now i’m listening to City FM

True! The standard of the listeners/ audience is always kept with Musicians standard and performance. When you don’t have brilliant musicians who can’t take the music to a high level, that country’s music goes to dogs. So sad!

so true, i guess it has to do with the audience, but at the same time if the musicians are not given the audience good content, then the audience don’t know what they are missing.

Nice post with some valuable recalls from history!

It’s so true that Sri Lankan Music got to go a very long way to at least catch the tail of India, in terms of rich music compositions and an intelligent audience.
